- 20th January via Beyond The Joke: Alan Carr launches travel podcast
- 1st December: A League Of Their Own announces UK Road Trip
Born in Dorset and raised in Northampton, comedian Alan Carr is noted for his camp, effeminate persona and presenting style. The son of a former professional footballer and team manager, he won 2001's BBC New Comedy Awards, and hosted his own comedy chat show for Channel 4, Alan Carr: Chatty Man, from 2009 to 2016.
Biography
Alan Carr is an English comedian and television personality born in Weymouth, Dorset, and raised in Northampton. His comedy career kicked off in Manchester, where in 2011 he won both the City Life Best Newcomer of the Year and the BBC New Comedy Award.
Educated at Weston Favell School, Northampton and Middlesex University (with a degree in Drama and Theatre Studies), Carr moved to Manchester. After performing several live shows across the city in the following years, he landed a recurring hosting role on The Sunday Night Project with Justin Lee Collins, which led to the popular entertainment show Alan Carr's Celebrity Ding Dong in 2008. Although this was short-lived, Carr's potential was notable, and this led to Channel 4 commissioning a popular comedy chat show Alan Carr: Chatty Man, which ran from 2009 to 2016.
In 2009 Carr began hosting the Saturday evening chat-show Going Out With Alan Carr on BBC Radio 2 alongside co-host Emma Forbes (later replaced by Melanie Sykes).
Alongside his work in television, Carr has toured live comedy with shows such as Tooth Fairy Live, Spexy Beast Live, and Yap, Yap, Yap!. In 2010 he also appeared on Channel 4's Comedy Gala, a benefit show filmed at the O2 Arena in London in aid of Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital.
Known for an outrageous, irreverent, and openly camp style, Carr's skills lie above all in presenting and hosting comedians and public figures. With an easy charm and grace, he is able to ask several near-the-knuckle questions and get away with it, because of his likeable, genial personality. To date he has won two British Comedy Awards, two National Television Awards, and a BAFTA TV Award.
In January 2018 Carr married his long-term partner, Paul Drayton, at a ceremony in Los Angeles. The wedding was officiated by his close friend, singer-songwriter Adele.
