Neither Mapp nor Lucia's bid to become a local councillor bears fruit. Mapp thinks she is pregnant and finds herself in dire financial straits after she and Benjy lose their investment in a mine. Lucia proposes that they switch houses to help Mapp out, and Lucia then gets excited thinking she has discovered Roman artefacts buried at Mallards. However they are not as old as Lucia had hoped so she holds a garden party to save face, where Mapp's pregnancy reveals itself as something else entirely.
