Andy Zaltzman

Andy Zaltzman is a British comedian and author whose material largely focuses on sports and politics. He is known for co-writing BBC Radio 4 sketch show Tonight, and for hosting his own topical/political stand-up sketch show Political Animal, alongside John Oliver.

Biography

Educated at Holmewood House School and Tonbridge School, Zaltzman went on to achieve a degree in Classics from University College, Oxford. While at university, he was sports editor for The Oxford Student[/I[].

Zaltzman has been a regular performer at the Edinburgh Fringe since 1999, when he was a finalist at the So You Think You're Funny? new act competition along with fellow future stars Russell Howard, David O'Doherty, and Josie Long. His debut full-length show at the Fringe was called Andy Zaltzman Versus The Dog Of Doom, and was nominated for Best Newcomer at the Perrier Comedy Awards in 2001.

Zaltzman has carried out a lot of work with regular comedy partner John Oliver, and together they made Political Animal, The Department, and The Bugle. Political Animal was a stand-up show that invited several comedians to perform political-themed comedy. Since 2006 Zaltzman has hosted solo.

Zatlzman's performance style and delivery is known for its verbal dexterity and liberal use of puns, and on [I]The Bugle podcast he often goes on extended 'pun runs', linking several together in a row. This podcast is one of the biggest in the history of iTunes.

From 2010 to 2015 he was a regular panellist on the BBC Radio 5 Live topical panel show 7 Day Saturday, alongside such comedians as Al Murray, Chris Addison, and Rebecca Front.

Zaltzman has appeared numerous times on comedy television programmes including Unspun With Matt Forde, Russell Howard's Good News, and Dave's One Night Standp/g]. On BBC Radio 4 he also wrote and hosted his own show, Andy Zaltzman's History Of The Third Millennium.

Zaltzman is a regular and avid follower of politics, and this has led to several appearance on The Now Showe and The News Quiz, as well as his own live tours, such as Andy Zaltman: Satirist For Hire, which likewise feature material poking fun at current affairs,

With a keen interest in sport as well as politics, Zaltzman has hosted cricket show Yes! It's The Ashes on BBC Radio 5 Live and is also a regular guest on sporting punditry show Fighting Talk.
