Back review

Simon Blackwell's comedy about a suspected cuckoo in the nest was surprisingly touching without veering into sentimentality. Bring on series two.

Young Frankenstein review

The music comprises a varied pastiche that always allows the performers to shine in front of Beowulf Borritt's set based on simple, old-fashioned flats.

The Party review

I have a lot of respect for those who can make a feature film from a very self-contained environment, but The Party is not quite feature length.

Young Frankenstein at Garrick Theatre review

When a stage adaptation of a Mel Brooks film receives the blessing of the legend himself, there is little doubt that it will be a big hit.

How Red Dwarf became classic comedy, wobbly sets & all

The classic sitcom has been enjoying a revival of sorts on the BBC: Still Open All Hours, a Keeping Up Appearances prequel, and now even a new series of Porridge (surely a crime in itself). Meanwhile, three million years into deep space - or as it's better known, the comedy channel Dave - Red Dwarf is re-launching for its 12th series. Unlike those other sitcoms though, Red Dwarf, which first aired in February 1988, has never really been away.

TV review: GameFace, E4, Episode 2

By one of those quirks of scheduling one of the storylines in the second episode of GameFace is very similar to a subplot in the Curb Your Enthusiasm episode which just went out.

Interview, Nick Helm

I interviewed Nick Helm this summer for the London Evening Standard in the run-up to his new tour and new Dave TV series Eat Your Heart Out. You can read the original interview there but he said so much that I couldn't fit in that I've posted the interview transcript below.

Red Dwarf XII - Cured review

The boys from the Dwarf are back once again on Dave, and facing some people most evil.

Ian Wolf, On The Box, 12th October 2017

Review: Young Frankenstein

If there is a more madly brilliant show than Young Frankenstein in the West End then I have yet to see it. Mad and bizarrely brilliant, this musical based on the classic 1974 film is a great way to cure the blues.
