Suburban snob Hyacinth Bucket (pronounced 'Bouquet') aims to impress. A rare, principled bastion standing against slovenly behaviour, lowering standards, and anything deemed cheap or common, this very middle-class woman has aspirations - and delusions - of splendid grandeur.

Hyacinth's hen-pecked husband, Richard, keeps his head down and does his best to cope with her highly-strung, demanding ways, whilst next-door neighbour brother-and-sister duo Elizabeth and Emmet frequently find themselves on the receiving end of her uncompromising approach to the finer things in life.

As far as Hyacinth is concerned, the less said about her 'wayward' sisters Rose and Daisy - and particularly the latter's slobbish husband, Onslow - the better! She loves them dearly, but they're not really her sort of people...
