How Red Dwarf became classic comedy, wobbly sets & all

The classic sitcom has been enjoying a revival of sorts on the BBC: Still Open All Hours, a Keeping Up Appearances prequel, and now even a new series of Porridge (surely a crime in itself). Meanwhile, three million years into deep space - or as it's better known, the comedy channel Dave - Red Dwarf is re-launching for its 12th series. Unlike those other sitcoms though, Red Dwarf, which first aired in February 1988, has never really been away.

It's often the first thing Dave Lister drinks of a morning, and even helped defeat the fearsome Mutton Vindaloo Beast. Now fans of Red Dwarf can sample the Jupiter Mining Corporation's standard-issue beer, Leopard Lager - and for free.
