Radio Times review

While Mackenzie Crook's nerdcom has ambled along quite happily for two episodes, this edition's walk over field and furrow is quite the happening. Disappointed that Bishop's Farm has yet to yield the kind of gleaming spoils that its potty owner has shown them, Andy and Lance focus instead on their pub's imminent folk-song open mic.

Highlights: Andy (Crook) makes a fool of himself - though not with the song that he performs with Lance; we get to see the singer of Detectorists' theme tune (it's Johnny Flynn, star of Channel 4's Scrotal Recall); and there's more hilariously childish insult-trading with rival gang the Antiqui-searchers. Best one yet.

Detectorists: Fellow saddos rejoice

Detectorists (BBC Four) is a sad git's niche comedy that would never have been commissioned if it hadn't been written and directed by Mackenzie Crook (who sort of counts as a Hollywood star, now, because after making his name in The Office he went on to appear in the Pirates of the Caribbean series). But I'm glad it was because I'm one of the sad gits it's targeting: desperate blokes who spend their every spare weekend at this time of year scouring ploughed fields for non-existent treasure.

'Fake' Londoners and fatherhood on Doc Brown's mind

His 90-minute set was almost devoid of the comedy raps which have earned him millions of hits on YouTube, yet his straight material was more than strong enough to keep his audience hooked throughout.

Dad's Army remake doesn't need Catherine Zeta Jones

Speaking as Captain Mainwaring's long-standing (and much-sitting) double, I must protest at the Hollywoodisation of this great English classic.

The Infidel: The Musical review

They bring to life a script that's light-hearted, relevant and with the best, most sincere, of intentions - but one would benefit from more finessing, and more of the songs that pack a punch.
