A neatly judged mix of realism and ripe exaggeration delivered at a frantically camp pace.

Nicely acted, especially by gawky Lucy Punch, this British comedy about a lesbian couple having children survives a sudden dip into tragedy.
Leslie Felperin, The Guardian, 12th April 2018Interview: rarely asked questions - Steve Gribbin
Back in the late 1980s it seemed compulsory to have Skint Video on every comedy circuit bill. The satirical musical duo of Steve Gribbin and Brian Mulligan made their name with pithy topical songs.
Bruce Dessau, Beyond The Joke, 12th April 2018Ian Hislop pens freedom of speech play
Ian Hislop has written a play about freedom of speech. The oft-sued Private Eye editor will tell the story of 19th Century satirist William Hone in Trial By Laughter. Hone was accused of seditious libel against the government and the Prince Regent in 1817, having parodied them in a spoof of the Book Of Common Prayer. He faced three separate trials on three successive days at London's Guildhall as the Establishment tried to silence him and deport him to Australia.
Jay Richardson, Chortle, 12th April 2018Funny Cow review
If you're expecting a comedic film, filled with laughs, you're in for a surprise! The film portrays what is frequently the comedic creative process of using your pain in order to create art and make others laugh. The title character goes through a great deal of hardship. You have been warned!

Sophie Bird, So Glos, 12th April 2018Intelligent, improvised banter from comedian Tom Allen
Here's an eminently grabbable chance to catch waspish comedian Tom Allen midway between his ten-year Edinburgh novitiate and a permanent seat on every Radio 4 panel show until radio is no more. Allen has already made his name on the circuit and his laconic, gay-man-in-the-street (as long as it has a Marks) persona is finely honed. Highly recommended. If you didn't see it in Edinburgh.
