British Comedy Guide understands that negotiations with the BBC for the comedy's return are still ongoing. If commissioned, Series 3 would likely be filmed later this year for broadcast in early 2019.
Speaking to Gloucestershire-based online magazine SoGlos, Daisy, who has recently had a baby, said: "We're going to be sitting down and starting to write the third series now. But my brain! I've still got baby brain, so I need to get back into it again!"
Series 2 of This Country recently concluded with a cliff-hanger ending involving Kerry and the police, and a third series is likely to begin with her fate being revealed.
This Country has won numerous awards over the last 12 months, and is now shortlisted for the BAFTA TV Awards. Speaking about the audience's reaction to the show, Daisy said: "It's been incredible. The response has been unbelievable!"
She added: "It's been really weird, because I've got a 13-week-old baby, so I've been quite busy just trying to be a mum! So, I only hear odds and ends of when Charlie says 'people have been asking about what's going to happen after Series 2.'"
Talking further about juggling the press attention and motherhood, she told the website: "It has been really hard, but it's been so amazing. It's also so amazing to have both of the big things in my life going on at the same time. But it is nice to have a bit of time out, just to be a mum and to do really boring household things."
Further details about Series 3 of This Country are expected to be revealed in due course.
BBC Three recently released a video featuring bonus previously unseen footage from the second series:
