Alison Carr, Standard Issue, 29th November 2016Joke's over: how the TV panel show fell from grace
In their day, there was something intoxicating about the no-holds-barred panel show back-and-forth. But there seems to be little room for it in a society that has begun to appreciate empathy - and neither, conversely, in a more brutal political climate that is not particularly suitable for dissecting for cheap laughs. The Velvet Onion, 29th November 2016Josie Long: comic who will conquer Brexit & Trump
Josie Long' stage at the Barrow Street Theatre, New York is hung with flags sewn with images and slogans that represent the show, an aesthetic that's Wes Anderson meets suffragette protests outside the White House in 1919. One flag has the image of Jaiyah Saeluah--a soccer player for the famously losing American Samoan team and the first transgender player to compete in the FIFA World Cup. Another reads, "ADELE IS A GENIUS COME AT ME." And in the center of the stage, there's a banner with the name of the show, Something Better.
Dana Schwartz, The Observer, 29th November 2016Leicester Square Theatre New Comedian Of Year review
A perfectly splendid night of comedy, this competition final was worth the ticket price. Nobody died - which is the least you can hope for - and some distinguished themselves. There was a standout winner (Joby MageeanOlga Koch) but the second and third positions (and there could have been a fourth) were tightly contested.
Julia Chamberlain, Chortle, 29th November 2016Review - Tom Allen: Indeed
Drenched, as always, in arch camp, Tom Allen's eighth solo show gives the clearest picture yet of the environment which forged him.
