Plumber Freddie Blacklock lives with his wife Thora in the north of England. Freddie is a down-to-earth bloke who likes to take things easy whereas Thora has ambitions for the couple to improve their social standing.
Often affecting a posh voice in an attempt to impress those she comes into contact with - from the doctor to work contacts of Freddie's - her pride and his uncomplicated approach to life are frequently at odds!
The Blacklocks have been married for 25 years, their children have flown the nest and they know each other inside out. But, as the adage says, familiarity breeds contempt... or at least a major headache.
