  • Simply Media is reissuing its Meet The Wife collection
  • An episode was missed off of one of the 3-discs
  • Customers can apply for a free replacement disc from the company

Simply Media has issued a recall for its recent DVD release, Meet The Wife.

The three-disc set was released in October, including fifteen surviving episodes from the 1960s BBC sitcom starring Thora Hird and Freddie Frinton.

The sitcom was immortalised by The Beatles by being referenced in their song Good Morning Good Morning, and was created and written by Ronald Wolfe and Ronald Chesney, who later found success with On The Buses on ITV.

However, a production oversight meant that a final, sixteenth episode, was omitted from the new DVD collection. Simply Media is now issuing replacement copies of the affected disc to all customers.

The episode, Brother Tom, should be on the third disc of the set as Episode 4, between Her Birthday and The Hotel, bringing the number of episodes on the disc up to eight.

Owners of an incorrect copy of the box set from its first production run can claim a free replacement disc by contacting the company. They are asking owners to send a private message through Facebook, including their address, place of purchase and order number. Customers without Facebook can email company representative Hannah Page with the same information.

The correct, full line-up of episodes across the three-disc set is as follows:

Disc One
Pilot - The Bed
Series 1 Episode 1 - Getting Away
Series 1 Episode 2 - Coming Home
Series 1 Episode 3 - The Back

Disc Two
Series 1 Episode 4 - The Night Out
Series 1 Episode 5 - Little Andrew
Series 1 Episode 6 - The Business Dinner
Series 1 Episode 7 - The Strain

Disc Three
Series 2 Episode 1 - Teenage Niece
Series 4 Episode 1 - The Pain
Series 4 Episode 2 - Her Birthday
Series 4 Episode 3 - Brother Tom
Series 4 Episode 4 - The Hotel
Series 4 Episode 5 - Merry Widow
Series 4 Episode 6 - Journey Home
Series 5 Episode 7 - Old Time Dancing

This represents the complete Series 1 and 4, plus the pilot episode and one episode each from Series 2 and 5. Series 3 is unrepresented, with every episode missing believed wiped.

According to television organisation Kaleidoscope an additional episode of Series 2 and a short special from Christmas Night With The Stars also survive, but these are not included in the set.

The company's other recent releases include Spike Milligan's Q Volume 1; Terry & June precursor sitcom Happy Ever After; Brenda Blethyn comedy drama All Good Things; and 1980s British-Asian sitcom Tandoori Nights.

Meet The Wife - Series 1-5 The Surviving Episodes

One of the BBC's earliest domestic sitcoms, Meet The Wife affectionately dissects the trials and comforts of mid-life marriage after the kids have flown the nest.

Written by Ronald Chesney and Ronald Wolfe, and running to five series from 1963 to 1966, the series was immortalised in The Beatles' Good Morning Good Morning: "It's time for tea and Meet The Wife".

Thora and Fred Blacklock (Thora Hird and Freddie Frinton) are a middle-aged couple in the north of England, just about managing to make ends meet. Fred is an amiable, hard-working plumber who likes a bet and a pint on the way home, while Thora is an incessant talker with ideas of improving the couple's social standing. Although happy to chatter at Fred in her normal northern accent, in company or on the phone she unfailingly puts on her posh voice - much to Fred's annoyance.

Despite Thora's limitless pickiness and bickering - usually over the most trivial things - there's genuine affection between the pair, and Fred's patience rarely reaches breaking point. It's a partnership that struck a chord with the British public, and confrmed Hird as the nation's favourite comic actress.

Includes the pilot episode and 16 surviving episodes from the series.
