Comedy review: Beyond the Pail

There's a flatus of village hall refinery in the air; which is something that one might not typically attach to the Western pub on a Sunday afternoon. But, the Comedy festival throws up some interesting marriages and today, the Uppingham Theatre Company have popped across from Rutland to give us some am-dram culture - Beyond The Pail, a plotless play of pun and pottiness.

Review: Daliso Chaponda, Comedy Box

Chaponda's precocious talent lies in the delivery: he draws the audience in with his voice, only to rail back at them with arms and eyes blazing. His well-deserved encore closed another great value show at the Hen and Chicken.

Comedy Festival Review: Peter Firman at Firebug

After the show, we wonder if the only way that he could have performed this particular trick was via a stooge. In truth, we'll never know. What we do know, however, is that this was a fine way to spend a Valentines evening.

Comedy review: Jonathan Mayor at Brewdog

In his fourteen years in this strange industry to date, Mayor freely admits that he's gravitated towards comedy of the lowest common denominator. Where there's a camp, double-entendre to be made, Mayor will be at the front of the queue. He'll flick his leg and flamboyantly drag us to his level. But now, Mayor wants to give us something a tad more serious.

Sky's Steve Coogan land grab

Now that Sky has nabbed the rights to the new series of The Trip, only a minuscule band of wealthy die-hards will be able to watch it. Should we get used to all our best TV going behind a paywall?

Review - Steve Hall : Zebra - The Lowry, Salford

Zebra is a warm and consistently funny show but a lack of ambition prevents it from being as engaging as one might wish.

Review: Twisted Edge Comedy

Much of the humour arises from the subtlety of the performance -- the taller acts taking the time to slowly adjust the height of the mic before they start their act -- as well as pauses and changes in the nuance of tone which show that the performers are both confident and well versed in their individual acts.
