Preview - Porridge

If this show has one thing going for it, it's that the original writers, Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais, are still writing it, but they will never been able to fill the gap left by the late Ronnie Barker.

Lee Ridley: the stand-up comedian who can't speak

Life as a disabled person sometimes means you are asked slightly confused questions. But amid those awkward moments, there can be humour. The following is an edited version of a monologue by Lost Voice Guy, Lee Ridley. He has cerebral palsy and uses a synthetic voice on his iPad to talk. He first performed this sketch for the BBC at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Labour of Love review: These Lefties are all right!

The audience enjoyed the nostalgia, sighing happily when they saw Teletext, a fax machine and an early Nineties mobile telephone. Though it may return one day, at present political centrism seems to have gone the same way as those defunct innovations and that makes this play feel less potent and truthful than it might have done a year or so ago. I'm afraid that, at present, not even the most artful West End production can match real politics for raw theatre.

Live Review: Ari Eldjarn, Soho Theatre

If there was a fault it was that this almost felt too slick. There was minimal interaction with the audience. It felt as if he knew he had a script that worked and he was going to stick to it.

Porridge: The Go-Between preview

The new Porridge certainly feels comfortable and familiar, but also does enough not to be a shameless counterfeit, even if it clearly exists in the shadow of its forebear.

Catherine Tate reunites with David Tennant in Ducktales

The Doctor Whp stars are reuniting on the rebooted Ducktales - with Tate lending her voice talents to the role of Scrooge McDuck's arch nemesis Magica de Spell. Which means you'll be hearing her dulcet tones alongside Tennant's - as he's providing Scrooge's voice in the revival.

Labour of Love review - Noel Coward Theatre London

Overall, Labour of Love is a wonderful example of how a play about politics can not only be educational but also entertaining as well.

Miranda Hart: comedy chased away my childhood anxiety

Apparently, I was rather serious as a child. My mother told me a story about how on a hot summer's day once, aged about five, I was chatting to my parents and grandparents while walking backwards and, unbeknown to me, the paddling pool was a lot closer than I realised. I fell backwards (mid-chat) into the pool, to their hysterics, especially as they could see it all coming, and to my deep and severe lack of amusement - which, of course, made it even funnier.

Porridge reboot shows that past is best left alone

Watching the new Porridge is like visiting a favourite old café only to find that its best bits have been jettisoned: the tomato-shaped ketchup bottles have been replaced by sachets, the Formica tables by stripped pine. Sometimes the past is best left alone.

Review: Bear Jokes in Leyton, East London

Nathan Cassidy, such a safe pair of hands that he does the audience warm-up for the X Factor. His stand-up is a much tricksier affair than you would expect from such a mainstream job, however, and here he ambitiously suggests he might have been responsible for the 2008 financial crash.
