Theatre review: The Tommy Cooper Show

The Tommy Cooper Show is the third such production seen hereabouts in recent years and attempts to blend a fairly faithful tribute to his stage act into some of the well-documented biographical details of his off-stage life. The gags and misfiring magic tricks are always worth dusting off and Daniel Taylor makes a passable impression in delivering both, even if he does choose to make his first stage appearance without that trademark fez. An unforgiveable omission!

Radio Times review

"Urine! Dipstick! Move!" barks Dr Martin Ellingham at his understandably alarmed receptionist Morwenna. Clearly, despite being heartbroken that his wife Louisa has taken their son James to live in Spain while she works out their marital problems, Martin's bad-tempered demeanour hasn't softened at all since we last saw him. On a more positive note he does agree to see a therapist, although Dr Rachel Timoney (Emily Bevan), while being young and attractive, is almost as acerbic as he is.

There's no sign of Sigourney Weaver or Caroline Quentin yet, both of whom make guest appearances in this series. There's Daniel Ryan as a local lifeboat hero in this episode. But the Cornish scenery is gorgeous, Portwenn is bathed in sunshine and Martin Clunes is as engaging as ever. Around nine million people will be very happy to see this doctor again.

Review: Miss Behave's Gameshow, London Wonderground

Hold onto your pints, Miss Behave is back to wreak havoc upon London Wonderground once more in Miss Behave's Gameshow, bringing her cacophony of chaotic games to the Spiegeltent and anyone who's loud and lairy enough for the ride along with her.

Opinion: the inconvenience of the toilet trip

Frankie Boyle made news this weekend when it was reported that fans were not let back into his gig after they left to go to the toilet. Boyle says that this is not supposed to be the case and that his post-piss policy since 2010 is actually that fans in the stalls are relocated at the back or in the balcony to keep disruption to a minimum.

The Glaswegian comic has a point. There are some things more infuriating than people leaving to go to the toilet - ie people using their phone, but that's another blog - but the toilet issue has been going on for a long time so it's great to see a performer take a stand.
