Freddie 'Parrotface' Davies is running a comedy class

He made his reputation as a comedian - starring in his own TV children's show - as one Samuel Tweet, the spluttering creation of a Redcoat's attempts to make audiences of all ages laugh. Now, minus the out-sized lisp, Freddie's hosting a master class in Blackpool this month. His first, in London and Manchester, were oversubscribed.

Working with Rik Mayall, by Kevin Armento

One of Rik Mayall's very last projects was to play a modern version of Fagin. In the months leading up to his sudden death on June 9, 2014 Mayall had been collaborating on a script with American writer Kevin Armento and Carlos Davis, writer/producer of Mayall's 1991 movie Drop Dead Fred. In the piece below Armento recalls the thrill of working with Mayall. Although he did not know Mayall's British TV work when he first met him, he soon realised that he was in the presence of a comic genius. Immediately after Mayall's death Armento wrote Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally inspired by their work together. The play is being performed at the Edinburgh Fringe this August. The comedy is physical, the dialogue delivered at breakneck speed. Sounds like classic Mayall.

Fringe preview: Spencer Jones

I will be honest. The first time I saw Spencer Jones I didn't get it. He was in the New Act of the Year final and I thought he must be a mate of the promoter or just someone who had wandered in from the pub next door, pausing only to put on a pair of stupid white tights. The second time I saw him it was at a Malcolm Hardee tribute gig. He did pretty much the same slapstickish, childlike set, mucking around with props, hardly saying a word, but it suddenly made sense. He really is a gifted clown with genuine funny bones. And since then other people have got it too. Jones was one of the hits of 2015's Fringe.
