Opinion: Is stand-up the hardest art form to review?

A couple of weeks ago I reviewed a show by a visiting American superstar. I enjoyed the show and filed my review. It was only after going to press that I received an email basically saying that - I'm paraphrasing here - the comic in question owned the copyright on what was said onstage and I was not allowed to quote any lines.

Lauren Pattison review

Pattison's two full-length shows have both been impressive calling cards, confirming that she is a talent to watch. Peachy is well worth seeing, but her next outing could be the one that really puts her on the map.

Vulcan 7 review

Vulcan 7 is funny at the right moments, boasting some great one-liners and witty comments, as well as comedic situations. It benefits from excellent actors. However, the storyline was a bit lacking.

Theatre review: Brexit

Although there are decent laugh-out-loud jokes which please both sides, it's all a bit Radio 4 Friday night comedy podcast. It misses the glorious balancing act of Yes Minister or -- despite Paul Connell's convincing turn as the PM's despairing political advisor -- the energising filthy invective of Malcolm Tucker from The Thick Of It. Still, unlike Brexit itself, it's all over in 75 minutes.

Lauren Pattison review

In her new show, Peachy, Pattison perkily traces her efforts to be young, free and single while coping with mental fragility.
