W1A review - the Way Ahead is behind and it's brilliant

The returning mockumentary send-up of the BBC is very funny at times, if a bit smug. Perhaps it should sharpen its daggers and look at Auntie's pay gap...

Across just three short series, Father Ted proved itself to be one of the funniest sitcoms of recent decades. Here our our pick of the best. Here are our favourite episodes.

Rob Keeling, Cult Box, 19th September 2017

W1A: Why this final series might be the best yet.

I'm just a little upset that this is the final series as, from what I've seen, W1A is arguably the BBC funniest comedy that's currently on screen and I'm just wondering if the reason its leaving the screens is because of Morton's ability to spoof the company that's actually in charge of recommissioning his brilliant sitcom.

People Just Do Nothing: every episode is more hilarious

The hit BBC mockumentary has stopped playing up Kurupt FM's ineptitude and swapped it for something far sadder. It's a brave move - and as Grindah, Chabuddy and co sink to new lows, this show soars ever higher.

John Kearns review

It's not difficult to see why Kearns earned the Best Newcomer Award in 2013, going on to win the Fosters Edinburgh Comedy Award in 2014. Don't Worry They're Here is a show substantial enough to satisfy a hearty appetite, deserving of high praise for its strong style, clever composition and flourish of an ending.

Kippers, Rats and Benzedrine Puff Adders

Is there such a thing as the perfect sitcom? For many people, Fawlty Towers fits the bill. Its success and influence on the national consciousness from only 12 episodes is such that it has become axiomatic for some that no comedy should run for more than two series.

Andrew Martin, BBC, 19th September 2017

You do not necessarily have to do a comedy course to try stand-up comedy.

John Byrne, The Stage, 19th September 2017

Comedy review: John Kearns at the Soho Theatre, W1

His disguised face and ramped-up voice gives him licence to mix up comic vehemence and melancholy, yet the mask is often frustrating.

Dominic Maxwell, The Times, 19th September 2017

Comedy review: Tom Stade at Preston's Charter Theatre

If you are expecting this review to be a blow by blow account of Tom Stade's latest show, you'll be disappointed. Firstly because if I did that there would be no point even going and secondly because this is a family newspaper and I want to avoid the torrent of complaints at the content of a show not intended for the faint of heart.

I talk to: Kerry Godliman

Eleven years since Lead Balloon began, Jack Dee is back with his second sitcom, Bad Move, this time for ITV.

Scripted comedy on ITV isn't something you see very often, but Jack Dee is hoping to have success on the channel with Bad Move, which he's co-written with Pete Sinclair who also worked with him on Lead Balloon.

Starring alongside Jack are Miles Jupp, Sue Vincent, Seann Walsh and Kerry Godliman who plays his wife Nicky. I caught up with Kerry to find out more about Bad Move, her character Nicky and her latest stand-up tour.
