Nellie Andreeva, Deadline, 30th March 2016Luisa Omielan review
It's a very personal journey and she delivers it with passion. I've now seen three shows with a similar comedic style at this Festival and it hasn't grown stale or too earnest. Come for the belly laughs and the slight awkwardness that arises when a comedian skirts the edges and then hits home with a point.
Shane Murphy, Daily Review Australia, 30th March 2016Eddie the Eagle misses out on cameo role
Were you not tempted to play a part in the film yourself? "I was hoping I would! I was hoping I would be a bit like Alfred Hitchcock - he gets a cameo in all his films. I was thinking: 'Please ask me, please ask me!' And they never did."
Lauren Turner, BBC News, 30th March 2016Stewart Lee's Comedy Vehicle, BBC2, episode 4.5 preview
One thing in particular intrigues me about Stewart Lee's Comedy Vehicle. It felt as if he was doing warm-ups and works-in-progress for this series for at least a year in advance around the UK. I assumed that this was to get every phrase, every comma, every pause in the right place. And then along comes episode 5 and, unless he is pulling the wool over the liberal intelligentsia's eyes and engages plants and stooges like a hack magician, he frequently seems to be winging it here.
Bruce Dessau, Beyond The Joke, 30th March 2016Why comics tend to make bad baddies
One-time Blackadder buffoon Hugh Laurie was on devilish form in The Night Manager but it's a rare comedian who plays a convincing screen villain.
Brian Logan, The Guardian, 30th March 2016Seven questions with... Gráinne Maguire
Irish stand up comedian Gráinne Maguire has recently been extending her comedic influence to the world of politics, with her appearance on BBC Question Time back in January being the catalyst for her being named Moody Comedy's Comedian of the Month. Gráinne's approach to political debate is particularly refreshing due to her positive can-do attitude and this outlook is also reflected in her stand up, with audiences being left with a constructive message, rather than a defeatist one.
Becca Moody, Beyond The Joke, 30th March 2016DVD/Blu-ray review: Peter Kay's Car Share
The year 2015 was, amongst other things, the year it became okay to like Peter Kay again.
