  • RTS Programme Awards 2022 winners were announced last night
  • We Are Lady Parts has claimed the comedy writer and female comedy performance prizes
  • In My Skin took female actor and drama awards, while Alma's Not Normal was named best scripted comedy

Channel 4's We Are Lady Parts and In My Skin, BBC Three's comedy drama, lead the winners at the RTS Programme Awards 2022, revealed at a ceremony last night.

In an event at the prestigious Grosvenor House Hotel, Tom Allen hosted proceedings that saw BBC One named Network of the Year and Graham Norton collecting the covid-delayed Outstanding Contribution to British Television Award for 2020.

Comedy programmes and talent to pick up prizes were as follows.

Writer (Comedy)

Nida Manzoor

Nida Manzoor - We Are Lady Parts (Working Title Television for Channel 4)
The judges commended writing that "was unpredictable, subverted stereotypes and kept you laughing throughout".

Scripted Comedy

Selecting the winner, the judges said of this show, "it's laugh out loud funny but at times profound and heart breaking, with wonderful writing throughout".

Comedy Performance (Female)

"Original, authentic and very funny", said the judges of the winner. Her performance "was full of little touches that made the script even funnier."

Comedy Performance (Male)

The judges described the performance by the winner as "one of real heart, warmth and originality".

Actor (Female)

The judges described this performance as "really very special. The actor's skilfully nuanced work in this piece was quite exceptional."

Breakthrough Award

The judges described the winner as "giving a performance that supported the writing really deftly...a performer whose work is charismatic and charming...a star in the making".

The judges called this programme, "original, surprising, modern and unpatronising. It has a fresh approach that really appeals to its audience."

Comedy Entertainment

The winning show, said the judges, "has a real sense of occasion, and is full of brilliantly entertaining format beats".

"You felt like you were there with them...a piece that was moving, powerful and authentic" said the judges.
