He split opinion down the middle but, to our minds, Count Arthur Strong was the comedy hero of the year. So it's good to see the BBC Two sitcom and its star, Steve Delaney, up for three awards in the Comedy Awards. One of those is best new comedy programme, the winner of which is announced live in tonight's programme, ahead of next week's awards proper. Count Arthur is up against Plebs, Psychobitches and Cuckoo. Jonathan Ross is on hand for gong duties and to give a rundown of the other 14 prizes on offer. Familiar names abound, including Ant & Dec, Graham Norton, Miranda Hart and David Mitchell, plus there's welcome recognition for the genius of Getting On.

Gigglebox weekly #68 - My comedy awards 2012

There just aren't enough categories for my liking, though, and like last year, I'm using this week's Gigglebox Weekly to honouring the comedies / comedians that didn't get a mention. Here goes...

Ali G aside, the BCAs were no laughing matter

It was nearly two tedious hours before Sacha Baron Cohen collected his Outstanding Achievement trophy and lifted the sombre mood.

British comedy awards: worthy winners?

There was plenty to howl about at last night's comedy awards. But while Olivia Colman and Cuckoo missed out, there were well-deserved gongs for The Thick of It, Hunderby and Reeves & Mortimer.

Bruce Dessau, The Guardian, 13th December 2012

British Comedy Awards 2012 reaction

I have a deep attachment to The British Comedy Awards (hereafter the BCAs), mainly because they're the only awards ceremony I've seen every edition of.
