Review - Sex & Pugs & Rock & LOLs

They are a little rough around the edges - and pug fans taken in by the marketing may be disappointed at the scant mention of the breed - but there's promise in the rookie comedians showing their wares in this Brighton Fringe three-hander. Ben Carter is the epitome of punk. Sarah Charsley proves herself a nifty writer. Katherine Atkinson is a comedian so deadpan she makes Jack Dee look like Timmy Mallett.

Lost Voice Guy's win a watershed moment for disability?

On Sunday evening, Britain's Got Talent drew to a close and this year's winner was crowned. Nothing unusual there. But Lost Voice Guy's victory wasn't just notable because he was the first comedian to win in the show's history - but also because he has cerebral palsy. Furthermore, the runner-up, another comedian named Robert White, has Asperger syndrome.

The Maydays: The Fringe Show review

One thing we learn from The Maydays take on the Brighton Fringe programme is just how turgid and pretentious some of the shows on offer sound, just from their own descriptions. Thankfully, though, we don't have to endure the less promising fare first-hand, for this cheery improv troupe offer bite-sized comedy versions that probably bear no relation to the real thing.

Old Comedian Of The Year 2018 review

Are the old ones the best? That's what Leicester Square Theatre's Old Comedian Of The Year competition aims to find out... even if 35, the minimum age for entrants (the same age as Nicki Minaj, btw), might hardly be considered past it. Certainly 84-year-old compere Lynn Ruth Miller poured scorn on some contestants' idea of being old, as she hosted the 3pm gig with a mix of dottiness and laments over her ailing sex life.

Interview: Tom Walker

Ever since Jonathan Pie began attracting attention in late 2015, the spoof news correspondent has been aggressively off-message, mocking the journalistic code that a reporter never becomes the story. His liberal-blasting tirade in the wake of Donald Trump's presidential victory has attracted more than 150 million online views alone. However, the first mass-appeal satirist to emerge from YouTube has polarised opinion and been kept at arm's length by the British television and comedy industry.

Shappi Khorsandi: Mistress and Misfit - review

It is hard to be sure what will feature in the show from night to night but certainly at The Lowry the material was of a very high quality that should ensure a good night wherever the show plays.

G.O.D. (Gold. Oil. Drugs.) by Dane Baptiste review

With a title like G.O.D. you know you're in for a serious show and arguably one that's going to push a few buttons.

Comedy's attitude to disability has a long way to go

There's a difference between impressing the judges (and being looked on kindly by the audience in the studio and at home) and having those watching you light up in collective mirth.
