Matt Berry's Steven Toast is moving to BBC One, it has been confirmed.

The corporation has ordered a six-part series of Toast Of Tinseltown (a working title), a sequel to Channel 4 sitcom Toast Of London.

First revealed in November, the BBC has now confirmed additional details about the new series.

Broadcast and casting details have yet to be confirmed, but it will be filmed later this year with "a mix of new and returning cast members".

The comedy follows the argumentative and regularly childish antics of deluded actor Steven Toast, now seeking fame and fortune in Hollywood, and is an Objective Fiction production in association with wiip.

Toast Of London ran on Channel 4 for three series from 2012 to 2015, seeing the fictional thespian embark on a series of hilarious misadventures on radio, television and the stage in Britain.

Matt Berry stars as Toast, and also co-writes the series with Arthur Mathews.

Berry says: "I couldn't be more thrilled to not only be working with Arthur and the rest of the Toast family again, but to also be taking the show to the BBC, which I know Toast himself would very much approve."

Arthur Mathews says: "It was a thrill to be writing Toast again after a long gap. Hollywood is a brave new world for Toast. There will be triumphs and tribulations (but mostly tribulations - and indeed humiliations)."

Shane Allen, Controller of BBC Comedy Commissioning says: "This sitcom is one of the stand-out comedy gems of the last decade. His name belongs in the pantheon of celebrated British comedy character buffoons - Partridge, Brent and Toast."

Ben Farrell, Chief Creative Officer for Objective Fiction, says: "I'm thrilled to be working with wiip and the BBC to bring Toast's adventures to the ultimate actor's playground - Hollywood!"

Toast Of London - Series One, Two & Three

Meet Steven Toast (Matt Berry, The IT Crowd, House Of Fools) - actor, ladies' man and aficionado of some of Soho's finest drinking clubs.

With the often misguided assistance of his old-school 'retro' agent Jane Plough (Doon Mackichan, Smack The Pony, Plebs) and peculiar flatmate Ed Howzer-Black (Robert Bathurst, Cold Feet, Downton Abbey), Toast faces a multitude of obstacles in his quest for fame and recognition. These include murderous director Acker Herron, arch-nemesis Ray Bloody' Purchase, submarines, Bruce Forsyth lookalikes, obsessive hoarders, Freemasonry, and the real Michael Ball.

Also includes the full array of special features from the individual series releases, ranging from deleted scenes and behind the scenes features to audio commentaries.
