Love Thy Neighbour
Today we're turning our attention to one of the 1970s' most successful sitcoms, Vince Powell and Harry Driver's Love Thy Neighbour. Running for 54 episodes across 8 series and a feature film spin-off, millions tuned in each week to enjoy the tit-for-tat arguments of black and white, north and south, Labour and Conservative next-door-neighbours Eddie Booth and Bill Reynolds. The series is often written off nowadays as simply a racist low-point of comedy, but in fact depicts a much more complicated picture of class, politics and social division in 1970s Britain - not to mention the ups and downs of friendship between two pompous men who are far more alike than either would care to admit.
