Kevin McNally and Robert Bathurst to star in new Dad's Army

Some of the cast for the forthcoming Gold series Dad's Army - The Lost Episodes has been revealed.

The Daily Mail reveals that Kevin McNally and Robert Bathurst will play Captain Mainwaring and Sergeant Wilson in the series, which aims to recreate the three episodes of the classic sitcom that are missing, believed wiped.

Kevin McNally, who has previously played Tony Hancock on both television and radio, will take on the role of platoon leader Mainwaring, played by Arthur Lowe in the original series.

Meanwhile Robert Bathurst will portray the cool and calm Sergeant Wilson. The Cold Feet star has previously played the character's actor, John Le Mesurier, in the 2011 BBC Four biopic Hattie.

It has also been revealed by Daily Mail reporter Baz Bamigboye that Bernard Cribbins will take on the role of Arnold Ridley's Private Godfrey.

The full cast has yet to be revealed but the newspaper hints that Gavin & Stacey star Mathew Horne is also in the frame to play one of the characters, likely spiv Private Walker.

The cast for the TV show varies from the 2016 Dad's Army film, which featured Toby Jones as Mainwaring, Bill Nighy as Wilson, Tom Courtenay as Jones, Michael Gambon as Godfrey, Blake Harrison as Pike, Daniel Mays as Walker and Bill Paterson as Frazer.

As revealed by BCG in September, Jimmy Perry and David Croft's scripts for the episodes The Loneliness Of The Long-Distance Walker, A Stripe For Frazer, and Under Fire will be filmed early next year, for broadcast on Gold.
