  • Friends star Courteney Cox is attached to a new ITV sitcom project
  • Truthing is set in a British healing retreat that promotes personal growth

Courteney Cox is attached to a new British TV comedy called Truthing.

Deadline reports that the Friends actor has signed up to the new sitcom.

British Comedy Guide understands that ITV has funded the development of a script from Big Talk Productions, which it owns, but that a pilot episode is yet to be ordered.

Truthing, which is set in the UK, is based around "the Clear-Path Institute, a six-day healing retreat that promotes personal growth, transformational experience and inner well-being. It follows the valiant efforts of its charismatic American founder and leader as she struggles to enlighten a fresh intake of truth-seekers."

Cox will both star in the project as the institute's founder, and act as Executive Producer on the show.

Deadline reveals the show has been written by Mark Chappell, the British writer whose previous work includes A Young Doctor's Notebook, BBC Three Comedy Feeds pilot Dead Air, and the US-UK project, The Increasingly Poor Decisions Of Todd Margaret.

Courteney Cox's last sitcom was Cougar Town, which ended its six-season run in America last year. She is now also working on another US sitcom, Fox pilot Charity Case.

This will be Cox's first British comedy appearance, following the success of fellow Friends alumnus Matt LeBlanc in the British-American co-production Episodes, which returns to BBC Two for its final series later this year. Meanwhile, Matthew Perry has appeared in Sky Arts short The Dog Thrower; whilst David Schwimmer has previously directed the film Run, Fatboy, Run and is now acting as producer of forthcoming Channel 4 sitcom Morning Has Broken.

If ITV opts to continue development of Truthing, information about a pilot or series order could follow later this year.
