The only oasis of quality broadcasting I can detect on my advanced radar systems for Bank Holiday Monday is Ghosts, now halfway through its (I hope) first series. It's basically the Horrible Histories folk having yet more fun, but this time in the form of a sitcom, rather than the usual gentle exercise in history teaching for the young. Anyway, in case you've not caught up with it, it's quite witty and extremely well played by the Horrible Histories repertoire company. This week, the young couple who've unexpectedly inherited a crumbling Jacobean mansion, and their menagerie of accursed spirits, play hosts to a film crew. What could possibly go wrong? At least they weren't making a sequel to Ghostbusters.

Sean O'Grady, The Independent, 4th May 2019

With the set-up out of the way, this sitcom about a creaky mansion inherited by a millennial couple, only one of whom can see the spirits that haunt it, is now flying. Strong, clever gags are offset - as always with the Yonderland/Horrible Histories gang - by lovely little performance flourishes. Delightful.

Ghosts, episode 2, review

Comedy with a silly ray of springtime sunshine and witty horror movie tropes.

Review: New comedy 'Ghosts' is good fun

Ghosts is first and foremost a fun, multi-character comedy that's jam-packed with jokes.

Sophie Davies, The Custard TV, 16th April 2019

Ghosts review

Beautifully designed and directed as well, I really don't have a negative word to say about it in the slightest.

Alex Finch, Comedy To Watch, 16th April 2019

Deliriously silly new comedy from the team behind Horrible Histories, about a lineage of spectres who band together to haunt a couple turning their beloved country pile into a hotel. It has been given a rare post-watershed slot for the HH lot, but the tone here is mischievous rather than adult.

Gwilym Mumford, The Guardian, 15th April 2019

Simon Farnaby on new BBC comedy Ghosts

The co-creator and star of Horrible Histories and Yonderland talks to Alexandra Pollard about his haunting new comedy, writing Paddington 2, and the "s**t-show" that is Brexit.

Alexandra Pollard, The Independent, 15th April 2019

Ghosts review

So the Horrible Histories team have moved, via family-friendly Yonderland, into the realm of adult sitcom. Although there is nothing about Ghosts that remotely requires its post-watershed slot, beyond scenes of mile peril, and milder double entendre.

Steve Bennett, Chortle, 15th April 2019

TV review: Ghosts, BBC One

Not so much spine-tingling as spine-tickling comedy.

Bruce Dessau, Beyond The Joke, 15th April 2019

Ghosts review

The new show from Horrible Histories may be the most unlikely comedy spinoff since Frasier, but what a glorious romp.
