One of Clare's clients has died and Clare is delighted with an afternoon off.

'Bleeding Hearts' is a new social worker drama on TV. Clare, despite complaining about its constant inaccuracies, still wants to watch it. Meanwhile Ray is upset as his mother has died and, in sharing his feelings with Clare, gives her the chance to try her bereavement counselling skills. Clare also has an appointment with Mrs Crossingham, one of her clients who everyone at the family centre detests. During the appointment Mrs Crossingham dies, which is joy for Clare as she gets the afternoon off to go to the funeral!

Simon tells Brian that he has not been in a strong relationship after his wife ran away with another woman. Claiming that he is fine with women, Brian disagrees and tells him to ask out the next single woman he meets, who happens to be Megan. This annoys Brian as he is fond of her. Clare then asks Brian if Megan is pretty, to which Brian clearly hesitates and stutters. As he doesn't like the idea of Simon and Megan dating, Brian tries to put Simon off, telling him that Megan is 'clingy' in a 'restraining order sort of clingy way'.

At the funeral, Helen accompanies Clare as they plan to go the pictures after. After the service, Mrs Crossingham's daughter tells Clare that her mother actually adored Clare and that the family gave her the nickname 'Saint Clare'. Clare suddenly changes her attitude and likes Mrs Crossingham and decides to stay a while to receive praise from the family, but she has to fake Mrs Crossngham's last words to her children.

Back home at Clare and Brian's, Megan arrives to tell Clare that Simon dumped her. But she is soon smiling as 'Bleeding Hearts' is on, giving her and Clare a chance to criticise the programme.
