In October 2013, Bec Hill announced that she was going to write an award-winning comedy show. This is a show for anyone who's ever made a promise they might not be able to keep... 'A powerfully positive attitude that will cheer even the most jaded' **** (Chortle.co.uk). 'An innovative talent' **** (Time Out). 'Side-splittingly funny' ***** (ThreeWeeks).

Edinburgh Fringe: the best shows

A round-up of some of the best shows this week.

The Times, 16th August 2014

How female comics took over the Fringe

At this year's Edinburgh Fringe there are almost as many jokes about feminism as there are about cats on the internet. Which is to say, lots of them. Bridget Christie, fresh from winning the Fosters Edinburgh Comedy Award (formerly the Perrier) last year, is back with an hour that tackles female circumcision and the ridiculous sexualisation present even in yoghurt adverts. Sara Pascoe's tour of women in history includes a delightfully sharp debunking of Page 3. Luisa Omielan is packing out a ballroom each night with Am I Right Ladies?!, a raucous celebration in which she sticks her fingers up at issues such as body fascism.

And now for something a bit different from the Fringe

There's no better place than the Edinburgh Festival to seek out some exciting acts that you might not get to see elsewhere. Find out what The Times's Comedy Critic Alex Hardy is looking forward to seeing this summer, plus watch a selection of original clips from the comedians themselves.

13 up and coming comedians to check out at the Fringe (Link expired)

While the natural progression for modern comedians may seem to involve a quick guest appearance on a panel show followed by a five-minute slot on Live at the Apollo, the more informed stand-up enthusiast will know that the Edinburgh Festival Fringe serves as the true comedic testing ground.

In October 2013, Bec Hill announced that she was going to win an award. This is a show for anyone who's ever made a promise they might not be able to keep...

Bec's acclaimed solo shows and hugely popular YouTube videos, which have garnered close to 200,000 views globally, have gained her a cult status in both Australia and the UK, where she is now based. She has a talent for incorporating arts and crafts into her stand-up routines; creating a unique and unforgettable comedy style that she calls "paper-puppetry".

This year, she has featured at London's famous Union Chapel with Alan Davies, Jimmy Carr and Kevin Eldon, The Bloomsbury Theatre with Al Murray and Soho Theatre with Julian Barratt.

Recent TV credits include the CBBC panel show The Dog Ate My Homework and London Live's Ctrl Freaks. She has also written for Bluestone 42 (BBC) and The Now Show (BBC Radio 4). As well as her Edinburgh and Melbourne Fringe sell-out solo shows and 5 star kids' shows, Bec is also the creator of the UK's cult punbased comedy night, Pun Run. Russian Roulette, a short film starring Bec in her acting debut, won the Grand Jury Prize at this year's Sundance UK.

Bec is also appearing in Bec & Tom's Awesome Laundry at The Gilded Balloon at 12:30pm.

Time Out's "Top 5 Funniest Comedians on Twitter" 2012.

The Telegraph's "Top 10 Comedians to Follow on Twitter" 2013.
