Birds of a Feather Page 14

ByTheWay: I don't think Alomo was BOUGHT by SelecTV, it always was part of the SelecTV group. I think probably Allan McKeowan handled his financing through the company SelecTV.

The name Alomo stands for

Al ... Allan McKeowan
Lo .. nickname of Laurence Marks
Mo .. nickname of Maurice Gran.

Collectively Laurence & Maurice are often known as LoMo.

Looking back through my records I see that my first invoice to Alomo, which was for their first computers before they started at Elstree was actually made out to SelecTV(Alomo).

Interesting info, thanks for that.

BOAF star Linda Robson has given her voice to children this week for a new interactive video campaign to ban smoking in cars with children, in memory of her father who died of lung cancer.

If this is a success, perhaps Marks & Gran will look to bring back one of their other shows - Goodnight Sweetheart being the most obvious (as it seems the idea for the West End musical for that has been dropped).

No, the most obvious would be The New Statesman.

I forgot about that. I think a new one would really have legs - especially as it has already been on the road.

I take it this new series isn't going to be aired at 1am in the morning as it says in the banner?

Oops! No, that's a weird glitch because we don't know its date yet. It's generally expected to launch early in 2014.

The tickets site indicates that the last episode is due to be recorded on Sunday November 24th.

Some episodes have already been recorded.

Laurence Marks and Maurice Gran write about the new series of Birds of a Feather on their blog.

And the filming/recording of the pilot of what might become a new sitcom: Led Astray.

The Kaiser Chiefs have a song Saturday Night with the lyric

"'Cause we are Birds of a Feather and you can be the fat one"

I have always wondered if it is a reference to this show and whether the actresses know about it.

Not that it is relevant any more

Certainly not a bad premise for a sitcom that. Not sure if we need yet another Liverpool set sitcom though do we? Wolverhampton have funny accents too, but don't get many sitcoms set there. Stars are not quite to my taste either, shame, good sitcom idea.

I went to the recording of one of the episodes of the new series of Birds on Sunday evening.

Being a friend of Laurence & Maurice, I got to go to the Green Room afterwards, with quite a few other guests.

Alas Linda & Lesley did not remember me from the 1990s, (the fate of us backroom boys I guess) and I did not get to talk to Pauline before she went home.

Still Gary Lawson & John Phelps (who wrote this episode) remembered me and it was interesting to see that at least two of the old Alomo production team for Birds are now in the Retort production team for Birds. (Most production staff are actually free-lancers who move from job to job as they come up.)

Will be interesting to see the new series.

Are the recordings in Central London?

Simon Lederman mentioned on BBC Radio London that he spotted Linda in Oxford Street this afternoon.

The recordings are in the ITV studios on the South Bank, near Waterloo Bridge.

There is only one episode left to do of this series (next Sunday) and I expect all the tickets are gone now.
