Fringe works on different clock to rest of the world

Time works differently up here. I know how that sounds; I know just how that sounds - but Fringe time is definitely a thing.

Natasha Tripney, The Stage, 12th August 2015

Why the Free Fringe is priceless

In 1996. I put on my first Edinburgh festival fringe show, 6pm Time to Get up For Work in a now defunct Firkin pub. It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.

Laugh Out London, 12th August 2015

Reviewer review: Will Pope (Broadway Baby)

Pope has the habit of throwing stars around like John-Paul the Second doing beatifications. Everything so far this year is a five-star hit, apparently. But then I'm always rather unsure about how much to needle critics for really liking stuff, even if they claim to like everything. Since Pope makes a detailed case for everything he approves of, I think I won't.

Derwent Cyzinski, FringePig, 12th August 2015

Reviewer review: Ben Shannon (Three Weeks)

Three Weeks only prints slug reviews, yet you can't help imagining Shannon's eye is on the word count and his mind, no doubt, on how many stars he needs to dish out to avoid difficult confrontations with his comedy peers as he goes to new places and meets new people.

Being called out for your sexism is not censorship

When I saw that the assistant editor of Spiked magazine had written an article for Chortle I almost exploded with raw sexual hunger. Barely able to contain my enthusiasm I ran across the room, tripped over my many volumes of Atlas Shrugged and hit my head on the coffee table, sending me straight into a coma - a magical dream world where Operation Yewtree itself is considered worse than Savile's crimes, global warming is a conspiracy of political double standards to raise taxes and Spiked magazine produce one article that isn't a steaming pile of turgid pig shit.

James Cary's top 10 sitcoms, #1 - Yes, Prime Minister

The eighteen episodes of Yes, Prime Minister are, to me, perfect situation comedy. Because I've always been such a sitcom geek, whenever I watch any sitcom I sometimes get itchy and think that the writers have missed out a joke, or have let a weak scene get through, or there are plot holes that need fixing. I watch Yes, Prime Minister and my sitcom geek alarm never goes off. It powers down and goes into sleep mode. Because Yes, Prime Minister is perfect.

James Cary, Sitcom Geek, 12th August 2015

A Londoner's guide to the Edinburgh Fringe

Heading out of London in search of culture may seem like a crazy idea for those who've never been to the Edinburgh Fringe. But this counter-cultural smackdown is not to be missed, even if it does mean heading "oop north 'cross t' border£" (yes, you will have to cross the M25). But newbies need not be intimidated; we went up recently and survived to tell the tale. So here are 10 things to remember to ensure your Fringe isn't too, um, hairy:
