Further details

Brian is busy cleaning up baby Thomas' business which seems to be scattered throughout the home and is trying to make conversation with Clare but she seems disinterested. Brian hasn't bought her a Valentine's card and she is annoyed yet he got one last year and she blamed him for being part of a sexist conspiracy.

At work, Megan is telling Ray about Brenda's bad behaviour and that she has to pay for one the teachers dentistry. Irene reminds her she is in a team meeting and to get back to the topic at hand, how to save the family centre. So far the petition campaign has received a few signatures, some of them being cartoon characters, dead films tars and Osama Bin Laden. £58 has been donated and will go to the cause when it is returned from whoever took it and Clare wants more middle class enforcements so she organises a garden party. The plan is to invite them all, get them drunk and get them to unknowingly sign the petition. At the same time, Helen is deciding to hand in her notice but no one seems to care.

One latest problem for Clare and Brian is Trevor Tinsley, one of their neighbours who leaves his bin bags out in the garden. Clare has sent Brian out to tell him but he is too scared to say anything. While Brian is out, Nali tells Clare of this fantastic thing she has been reading that she found on the bus. Clare is happy for her but when she says the Daily Mail claims that Jeremy Clarkson and Wallace and Gromit are important British figures, Clare is fuming. She demands that the rag is thrown out the house. Brian returns rather shaken. Clare asks what the problem is but Brian is too hurt. He says Tinsley was abusive calling him Alan Yentob. Brian: 'No one deserves to be called Alan Yentob!' Clare is utterly infuriated. She goes across the street to howl, screech, bawl, holler and scream harsh abuse at Trevor Tinsley and is offended that he doesn't want to go to her garden party.

During the garden party, Brian is going to all the little huddles trying to get some signatures for the petition. He manages however to swindle a visit to the pub with Simon. While talking about Clare's party, a man approaches them to say he wants to do his bit for the community and would love to go along. Brian is pleased and gives him the address. The man whispers to his group to get the van. As they leave Brian is telling Simon that life for gay men must be much easier as they are more open to their feelings and wants to try it with Simon. Simon really wants to change the subject but Brian is determined. He says that gay men would be doing what they are doing on any night; having a drink down the pub. And maybe later grab a bag of chips, go home and have sex. That is an uncomplicated night for Brian. Simon is getting more worried by the second.

While Brian is thinking of being more open and wanting Simon to do the same, everyone on Woodley street (Clare and Brian's street) have been burgled except the Tinsleys. Clare isn't too bothered as everything from their house looked to be Nali's.

The next day at work, Megan tells everyone that Brenda is in trouble at school again for throwing a stool at the teacher. Everyone seems to misunderstand as to what type of stool though. Helen meanwhile is worried about her job as social worker and Ray tells Clare that the police called and that the burglars have been caught. They had stupidly signed the petition.

That evening, Clare is preparing dinner but inside she is really angry that the Tinsleys have left their bin bags out again. The doorbell rings. Brian answers it and Trevor Tinsley is at the door. They have lost their cat and he is asking whether Brian can stick a lost cat poster in their window. He also apologies about the Alan Yentob comment. He admits it was out of order.

The day after, Clare is happy and smiling as the Tinsleys have had their rubbish cleared and Megan has been called into nursery again as Brenda has apparently burned it down.

Brian for the day visits Simon for their experiment which Brian is looking forward too much more than Simon who is scared by the idea. Brian has brought face packs and wine while Simon was instructed to get a DVD. Tropic of Lesbos wasn't what Brian had in mind for the occasion but Simon pleads with Brian not to watch Sex and the City. After watching TV it is time for them to discuss their emotions. Simon is fixed on not taking part but soon breaks down in a story about his mother not loving him and her dying. He can't stop crying and Brian suggests watching Tropic of Lesbos if it makes him feel any better. Simon thinks it is a good plan and asks for Brian to pass the tissues. He makes it clear he wants them to wipe his tears.

Clare meets Trevor Tinsley on her way back from work and sees a clean front garden. Clare is happy but Trevor wants Clare to give them back their cat. Clare has no idea and interrogates Nali. Nali insists that she has nothing to do with it and is so disgusted by the lack of trust she quits and runs upstairs and tries to shush the cat. Clare later tells Nali that everything was Brian's fault and see decides to stay.

Finally, Clare and Helen are out on the street the next day asking for more petition signatures. Helen enjoys the moment so much she considers staying with the family centre. Clare is pleased and suggests getting a few more signatures and then visiting the pub. Helen agrees and they speak to a group of girls for their support. The girls happily sign the petition but at the same time they are muggers and they threaten to take their money.
