Anti Gay Jokes Page 6

Very eloquently put.

It reminds me of that Seinfeld episode where a guy becomes Jewish just for all the jokes. I guess if you really want to tell gay jokes you just have to do the 'it's ok, I'm gay' thing after. Might actually have a take a few for the team beforehand though. :)

Sounds sore.

Is anybody aware of instances in which comedians have genuinely got into trouble under this new act? Where they've said something, either deemed to be racist or homophobic, and actually suffered consequences?

Nope.

It just depends upon the joke. Prejudiced jokes come from the 'ooooh, it's two men having sex, that must mean that they put their penises up eachother's bums, ewwww' school of comedian.

I think that type of joke can also come from a distaste of (or amusement at the thought of) that particular gay sex act, rather than prejudice.

Like a lot of minority groups or overly-Politically Correct types, you seem to be saying 'dislike' or 'amusement' is 'prejudice' and this is dangerous in my opinion and I think that is where Rowan Atkinson is coming from.. (yes, I know he's coming from behind, clearly..;))

Some gay friends over the years have advised me that they think of the heterosexual act as quite disgusting, and that's fair enough, it's their opinion and perhaps not surprising! To me, all of the 'penetrative' sex acts are potentially disgusting or funny when you think about it (unless it's you doing it perhaps!!) Context being everything here! :)

But let's not see prejudice everywhere..

There is prejudice of course, but there is also non-prejudicial comedy that makes fun of minority groups.. be careful not to label it all 'prejudicial' as you are doing a disservice to those you are trying to protect, by taking the focus and seriousness away from cases of genuine predjudice.

I, like any intelligent human being, abhor genuine prejudice, of course.

Well, maybe I'll change my opinion to that I think comedians who find gay sex an excellent opportunity for comedy are as funny as a bout of the clap. Then again, Jimmy Carr should have the right to hold his opinions.

All this talk of penatrative sex has got me horny. Stop it. Its like the British Porn Guide here. A girl can't function properly. I am rubbing myself on the corner of the desk as I type.

I suppose it depends as to the manner in which one is trying to function...

Well if they do make anti-gay jokes illegal, I will respect it and make jokes about something - no butts.

The problem with these half baked laws is that there's never any thought given over to irony and so every joke with a direct or indirect gay reference becomes fair game because there will be someone who will cry homophobe, before getting the perpetrator banged up. There you go, I just said 'banged up', so therefore I must be guilty as charged.

I don’t know about anybody else but this seriously scares the willies out of me.

How many comedians have been locked away so far for telling non-PC jokes? Bugger all (Oh God, there we go again).

Common sense has been far from requisite for the past decade's Governments. The term "Nanny State" is thrown around far too often, but actually is becoming increasingly applicable.

The issue is less the practicality, but the principle of it.

I was replying to this post.

I know. :)
