Anti Gay Jokes Page 7

Well, I don't think that anyone needs to fear imprisonment. It's really just a piece of pointless buraucracy. Nudge Nudge insinuation is always ignored and The Jim Davidson's of the world let their own tongues condemn them.

Well, maybe I'll change my opinion to that I think comedians who find gay sex an excellent opportunity for comedy are as funny as a bout of the clap. Then again, Jimmy Carr should have the right to hold his opinions.

Three points:

1. I must agree with you up to a point, although I laugh at gay jokes (I can't help laughing at some of them..) they don't actually feature in my own writing at all as I find it too cliched. I do defend the right of comedians to tell non-prejudicial gay jokes though. It's defending the freedom of speech in my view. E.g. I found 'Little Britains' gay antics a bit crass, but not predjudicial (not to my sensibilities anyway)

2. There are some funny clap jokes! Context again.. not if you've got it, as you say..

3. Jimmy Carr can hold his own but I don't want him holding mine.

Yes, I think that Matt Lucas' homosexuality rather stands in the way of his homophobia.

Yes but that only works if you KNOW that he is a homosexual, otherwise you have to look at the art, not the artist.

I don't care if he is gay or not. That isn't the point. I found his portrayal of a gay man crass, but not predjudicial. It was funny too, the first 500 times you saw it! ;) Well, first one or two times..

Fair point

It was unhelpful for social attitudes; Littlejohn's used it as 'proof' that there was no prejudice against gays (before contradicting himself by calling them 'pooves'). I found LB funny when I was thirteen but I also found people saying 'your mum' quite amusing. It's comedy for people with short term memory.

What I liked / like about LB is that I think they are both very, very capable at what they do. But they certainly put the capital 'R' back into repetitive.

I am not sure 'outlawing' gay jokes of any kind will help shape peoples attitudes, and where do you stop the censorship? No gags about anything that upsets anyone? That could almost be anything given the complexity of the Worlds combined cultures! And the World is a small place now...

I am from a multi-racial family and have seen clashes over really minute differences in culture! Humans are too complicated!

I blame God. And that's another issue to clash over.. ;)

They would if they could. I have no doubt about that.

It's very worrying Aaron.

Orwellian!

:(

When I first read 1984 I thought that Big Brother was awful, and when I saw it for real on Channel4 I knew I was right!

Arf! Arf!

Yes, issuing a warning about gay jokes one minute and outlawing all thoughts against the government in the next.......possibly......

Even Orwell would be disturbed.

What, Friday evenings?

Any time! The kettle is never cool in this flat (when we're in..) the kettle may still be 'cool' when we're out, but hey, I'm not judgemental..
