Well as far as I can see it was the Palestinians shielding Hamas who made the first strike.

Is Palestine trying to throw Israelis out of their homes and give them all to Palestinians to live in instead?

Is Palestine lobbing hundreds of random rockets into Israel ?
Imagine they were aiming them at you....

Probably worth reading.
It's complicated.

The other problem is it's so unbalanced.
100 Palestinian dead V. 7 Israelis.
Essentially Hamas are sending over dustbins full of fireworks - the biggest danger is one landing on your head.
(That's an exaggeration - but you get my drift).

Yes they are - but they aren't doing it as a hobby or a practical joke

There are reasons

But they know the Israelis will retaliate - an eye for an eye etc - so they're doing doing it to provoke knowing that Palestinian civilians will be killed.

You could say the same of the French Resistance.
They'd blow up one tank and an entire village would be punished.
They don't feel they have a choice.

That's what the Hamas charter calls for, so yes.

I think German deaths in WWII were about 20x those of the UK - does the imbalance upset you?

Not a particularly useful figure.
Allied deaths were many times higher than Axis deaths - even more so among civilians.
Either way - not an indicator of who's right and who's wrong.
The trouble is, a lack of a solution by the West (who caused the problem in the first place, with their insensitive & Colonial handling of the initial creation of Israel) has allowed factions to develop - leading to illegitimate methods in pursuit of, if not legitimate, then at least wholly understandable ends.
The IRA being a more homegrown example - in the past, enthusiastically funded by the US.

Funded by a relatively small number of Irish-Americans, not the United States.

Accepted.
At one time it was their main source of funding, though.
It took Maggie pleading with Reagan to address the issue to eventually stem the flow.

One of the protestors in London today had a homemade carboard placard with the letter Q on it and they were holding it upside down, please make of this what you will.
