Lenny Henry charms in Neil Gaiman's Anansi Boys: review

Around 20 years ago, the comedian-turned-actor complained to Gaiman that there weren't enough horror movies with black leads; Anansi Boys was Gaiman's attempt to write one, though his idea for a film script instead became a novel, and the horror came laced with comedy.

300 Years of French and Saunders, BBC1 review

What joy that Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders were persuaded by the BBC to celebrate their 30 (ish) years as a comedy duo with this programme - and that this sweet confection was shown on Christmas Day. It was a pleasing mix of old clips and new material, and a reminder that when F&S are good, they are very, very good.

Preview: Sam Lloyd, Piñata

Sam Lloyd is a new name to my ears. The 24-year-old from Newport has been performing stand up since he was in his teens, but it feels as if this is the start of something bigger as he starts to put together the beginnings of his next Edinburgh show, Piñata.

The League of Gentlemen Anniversary Specials review

15 years since the last series aired and 20 years since the comedy troupe came to be, The League of Gentlemen reunited for a brief, but brilliant visit to the wonderfully twisted town of Royston Vasey.

Snobbery against Mrs Brown's Boys is of concern

I've only ever caught scraps of Mrs Brown's Boys, and I have to confess that while I've tried, I've been unable to get through a full episode. But while I'm not a fan millions of people are. Once again it's one of the most watched shows over Christmas. And this is why the scorn and elitist snobbery that surrounds it from 'taste makers' irritates me beyond reason.
