Count Arthur Strong is moving to BBC One for its second TV series.

The show, which launched on BBC Two in 2013, will return to screens in early 2015 for seven new episodes.

The BBC explains: "The decision to bring it to a wider audience on BBC One is in line with the channels great tradition of family-friendly character comedy and sitcoms. It follows in the footsteps of BBC Two's continued success launching new talent in hit shows such as The Royle Family, Miranda, Absolutely Fabulous, The Office and The Catherine Tate Show, all of which started life on BBC Two before transferring to BBC One."

The new episodes will see Michael (played by Rory Kinnear) returns to Bulent's Café, and again find himself drawn into Arthur's world of ill thought-out, innocent but poorly executed scams, schemes and best-laid plans. An inevitable commotion follows former variety star Arthur's every move, and is delivered in his inimitable triumphant style with warm-hearted Arthur blissfully oblivious to the chaos he leaves behind.

Writer and star Steve Delaney says: "I'm delighted that the show is to transfer. BBC One has a great tradition of live audience studio based sitcoms and it's wonderful to now be part of that tradition."

Graham Linehan, who has written the new episodes with Steve Delaney, adds: "BBC Two has been wonderful in nurturing the show and kind in letting us transfer to BBC One, which I think will suit this big, silly brilliant character even better."

The BBC's Gregor Sharp comments: "Count Arthur Strong is a true comedy original and we're delighted to welcome him to BBC One. We hope he doesn't break anything."

Executive producer Richard Daws says: "We are delighted that the joy that is Count Arthur Strong will have the potential to reach the widest audience possible." And Jon Rolph, also an Executive Producer on the show, adds: "Arthur is never happier than when he has a new audience to entertain - and we're sure viewers old and new will be delighted to discover his brilliance on BBC One."

Series 2 of Count Arthur Strong launches in early 2015. The character also continues on the radio. A new Christmas special of Count Arthur Strong's Radio Show! has been recorded, for broadcast on Radio 4 this December.
