Richard Ayoade's quirky panel show Question Team is returning to Dave for a second series, British Comedy Guide can exclusively reveal.

The channel has ordered eight further episodes of the idiosyncratic quiz in which three comedians must bring a unique round of questions inspired by their own interests for Ayoade and the other guests to answer.

Resuming filming shortly and returning to Dave later this year, Question Team's first series was one of the channel's best performing original shows, attracting 563,000 viewers for the first episode and a series average of 397,000.

The line-up for the new episodes has yet to be revealed. But previous guests have included Bob Mortimer, Katherine Ryan, Johnny Vegas, James Acaster, Rosie Jones, Kerry Godliman, Nish Kumar, Sara Pascoe, Lost Voice Guy, Kiri Pritchard-McLean and Desiree Burch.

"I am beyond thrilled to be providing a quote pantomiming genuine excitement w/r/t whatever I'm meant to be promoting" said Ayoade.

Reviews of the first series were generally positive, with The Daily Mail saying "Question Team has hit upon a doozy of a format", while The Daily Telegraph called it "blissfully daft".

Produced by Tom Corrigan for Interstellar and executive produced by Jamie Ormerod and David Williams, Question Team was commissioned for UKTV by Iain Coyle, head of comedy entertainment, and ordered by Cherie Cunningham, Dave channel director.

"We're thrilled to head back into studio for more trivia-based nonsense with Richard Ayoade and eight new Question Teams, each equipped with original games for this ever-changing format" said Ormerod, creative director at Interstellar. "Series 1 featured comedians jumping out of planes, high stakes lawn bowls and identifying crisps from the sound of their crunch. Series 2 promises rounds that go higher, with more jeopardy and even more crunch."

Coyle added: "What's great about this show, is that you've literally no idea what is going to be in it, week to week, as every round is unique. It's quite something to pull off for the producers and Richard is an extraordinary host for an extraordinary show."

Appearing in cinemas as pompous guinea pig Professor Marmalade in animated children's crime comedy The Bad Guys From Friday, Ayoade returns to Channel 4's Big Fat Quiz Of Everything on Sunday, appearing alongside Rob Beckett, Rosie Jones, Roisin Conaty, Mawaan Rizwan, Joanne McNally and host Jimmy Carr.

He is also making Dan Harmon's US animated television comedy Krapopolis, set in ancient Greece, with Matt Berry and Ted Lasso's Hannah Waddingham, as well as Wes Anderson's adaptation of Roald Dahl's The Wonderful Story Of Henry Sugar, with Benedict Cumberbatch in the title role, Ralph Fiennes, Ben Kingsley, Dev Patel and Rupert Friend.

Question Team was recently acquired for broadcast in Australia and New Zealand. The first series is repeated on Dave from April 5th.
