The week in TV: Hang Ups
Co-writer Stephen Mangan heads a stellar cast in Channel 4's new therapy comedy.
Euan Ferguson, The Guardian, 12th August 2018TV reviews: Hang Ups
In TV world, the only profession more troubled than a police detective is a therapist. From the outset, Hang Ups was a tense, nervous headache of a sitcom, a visible pulse in its temple, muscles a neurotic knot.
Victoria Segal, The Times, 12th August 2018Hang Ups, episode 1 review
Real therapists will roll their eyes but this comedy is a wonderfully ribald treat.
Jasper Rees, The Telegraph, 9th August 2018TV review: Hang Ups
So far it is half-excellent, half-nervous breakdown.
James Jackson, The Times, 9th August 2018Hang Ups episode 1 review
With a strong core cast, an impressive roster of guest stars and an interesting style unlike anything else on British television, Hang Ups is an enjoyable watch.
Sophie Davies, Cult Box, 9th August 2018New comedy: 'Cup your genitals and just hold them'
If the jokes are just the right side of inappropriate, so is the form.
Peter Crawley, The Irish Times, 9th August 2018Hang Ups episode 1 review
Stephen Mangan's semi-improvised Channel 4 comedy Hang Ups is a circus of silliness and human pain...
Louisa Mellor, Den Of Geek, 9th August 2018Hang Ups review: a very funny wake up call
The series is hilarious but sheds light on some serious issues that will hit home for millennials.
Molli Mitchell, The Daily Express, 9th August 2018Stephen Mangan stars in and co-scripts this fast-paced and funny new series about Richard, a put-upon therapist trying to make a new career by carrying out sessions online. Among his clients are a woman whose life and aspirations are defined by Instagram and an aggressive creditor who agrees to take sessions to offset some of Richard's debts. Charles Dance and Richard E Grant co-star, as does The IT Crowd's Katherine Parkinson, as Richard's partner, who is constantly accompanied by a male friend.
David Stubbs, The Guardian, 8th August 2018Hang Ups star Stephen Mangan explains his new sitcom
The actor joins his Channel 4 comedy co-creator - and brother-in-law - Robert Delamere to talk through mental health and why they've never argued.
Chris Harvey, Radio Times, 8th August 2018TV: Hang Ups, Channel 4
Boy oh boy that Stephen Mangan has a hell of a work ethic.
Bruce Dessau, Beyond The Joke, 8th August 2018Hang Ups review
Mangan stars in a remake of Lisa Kudrow's Web Therapy and manages the rarest of TV feats: a UK adaptation that's every bit as good as the US original.
Sam Wollaston, The Guardian, 8th August 2018Hang Ups, Channel 4 review
Stephen Mangan's new sitcom is hilarious and off-the-wall.
Elisa Bray, i Newspaper, 8th August 2018Stephen Mangan on writing his first sitcom Hang Ups
"I'll be in therapy for years after this."
Alice Jones, i Newspaper, 7th August 2018
