The Office was the highest-placed comedy in a list of the top 50 landmark programmes of the last 50 years.

A poll of members of the Broadcasting Press Guild, which marks its 50th anniversary this year, named The Office fourth in its list of landmark programmes. It was not only the top comedy, but the top work of fiction, with the top three being documentaries - the 7 Up series in first place, Life On Earth second, and The World At War third.

Fifteen comedies made the top 50, with two others also placing in the top ten, with Have I Got News For You coming seventh and The Day Today tenth.
