Bruce Dessau's top TV comedy for 2016

It's been a bad year in all sorts of ways, but not in terms of TV comedy. I sat down today to come up with a top ten of the year and had difficulty narrowing it down to ten. Of course there were disappointments and programmes that didn't quite live up to expectations, such as Sky's Andrew Lawrence documentary, but there was still plenty to laugh at here. And if you are quick some of them are still available on various catch-up services. And in case you are wondering, I decided not to include Black Mirror - it was brilliant but just too painfully real to be funny.

Mid Morning Matters box set review

Meatloaf-inspired phone-ins, a luddite folksinger and an anecdote about Scalextric swapped for cocaine - Norfolk's showbiz legend returns to his radio roots.

DVD review: Alan Partridge Mid Morning Matters series 2

Alan remains a great comedy creation, often sympathetic (unexpectedly bringing out the softer side of a loathsome opinion former played by Reece Shearsmith) but just as often sickeningly egotistical, politically incorrect and tyrannical, this format (which never sees Alan leaving the radio studio) works well.

Chris Hallam, Chris Hallam's World View, 4th April 2016

Series two of the faultless Mid Morning Matters concludes. Series one's finale was pitched perfectly and so is this, with trouble brewing on the home front between Alan and Angela, and then at work with Sidekick Simon, who could be about to betray Alan in the most grievous manner. As one might expect, Alan's inner turmoil spills out into "North Norfolk's best music mix". Coogan and co hit a perfectly calibrated sweet spot where poignant meets snortingly funny.
