Shane Richie is amongst the stars signed up for The Taylors, a new sitcom pilot.

Created by Two Doors Down writer Simon Carlyle, The Taylors is described as a comedy about "a fun-loving nouveau riche couple, Gary and Melissa, and their noisy family who've recently relocated to a middle class street in Watford".

The pilot will be broadcast on Radio 2, but is also being pitched as a TV project.

Starring alongside Richie in the role of Melissa will be Hannah Waddingham. The comedy will also feature Jack Bence (Bad Education), Nicholas Burns (Nathan Barley), Kirsty J Curtis (Rellik) and Ella Kenion (The Catherine Tate Show) in supporting roles.

Production company Hat Trick explain: "Gary is a child of the 80s / 90s. Loves a pint, loves a sunbed, loves the birds. He's always been a good looker and, although he really loves his partner, he struggles to keep his natural tendency to flirt in check.

"We follow Gary and Melissa and their kids as they adjust to life in their new neighbourhood. They're not mixing with the aristocracy but they are in quite a middle class area so there's a marked difference between Gary and Melissa and their new neighbours..."

The pilot will be recorded at the Backyard Comedy Club in London on Tuesday 20th March. Free tickets

The Taylors will be broadcast on Radio 2 as part of a forthcoming season of comedy pilots.

Shane Richie will next be seen on TV reprising his role as entertainer Sammy Valentino in ITV sitcom Benidorm.
