As heard on Radio 4's Ed Reardon's Week, Christopher Douglas stars as Ed, the Bard of Berkhamsted... failed writer, fare dodger and master of the abusive email, grumbling about a modern world seemingly run by 12-year-olds, while churning out books such as Jane Seymour's Household Hints and Pet Peeves (to pay the bills) and trying to live off the royalties of his 1982 episode of Tenko (£17 per annum). Although he'd prefer to perform the show alone (pocketing the whole fee) he's infuriatingly assisted by two actors playing all the other parts.

More details

The nation's favourite failed author looks back on a life of disappointment, divorce and Chilean merlot.

Consummate fare-dodger and master of the abusive email, Ed Reardon lives in a one-bedroom flat with his cat Elgar, raging against a modern world seemingly run by twelve-year-old imbeciles. Inside a cloud of smouldering pipe smoke and resentment, Ed is forced to churn out books like Jane Seymour's Household Hints and The Ladybird Book of Shoes while trying to live off the royalties from his 1982 episode of Tenko.

Christopher Douglas performs and co-writes the award winning Ed Reardon's Week for Radio 4 and is soon to start work on an eighth series. He is also the voice and co-creator of the world's most disappointing cricketer Dave Podmore. 'Pod' has been a Radio 4 regular since 2001 and was a Guardian columnist for ten years. Christopher also writes and directs the improbably long-running career of uber-thesp Nicholas Craig (played by Nigel Planer) on BBC TV and Radio 4. His stage work includes Scout's Honour (Standard Best Comedy nomination), Theatrical Digs and An Evening With Nicholas Craig and among his books are I, An Actor, Douglas Jardine - Spartan Cricketer and The Word Of Pod.

Andrew Nickolds' main radio credits include Ed Reardon's Week (BBC Radio 4), An Audience With Ed Reardon (Radio 4, 2010) and Dave Podmore's Cricket Night (Radio 4). His TV work includes Agony (LWT, starring Maureen Lipman), Comedy Connections (BBC1) and The Lenny Henry Show (BBC1), and his published works include Lenny Henry's Well-Hard Paperback, Arthur Daley's Back To Basics, and Pod Almighty.
