No - never heard of it but I've got tickets to see them with Trevor as Anderson, Rabin, Wakeman - ARW - next March in Brighton.

Great. Unfortunately, I can't see any dates in Switzerland on their website.

I'm going to see John Cale on the 22nd of this month. He's in Basel for the 4th time in the last five or six years, I missed him three times but I'm going to make it this time.

Top of the Pops from 1982 is on BBC4 now with John Peel being "helped" to present it by Debbie Harry.

Japan, Soft Cell, Blondie Genesis so far.

Hey Lofty!

Good to see you back, and back on this thread.

I recorded the doc - Don Letts is usually pretty interesting and knowledgeable.

I've got an interesting old original skinhead comp somewhere or other on vinyl. It was given to me at Uni around 1980 by another student there who used to be a skin, and saw how I was into the Specials et al. It's got a crap cover, and was some budget compilation, but it's got lots of classics on it.

Happy (90th) Birthday, Chuck Berry!

As I'm sure you know, The Faces did a nice cover. (This live version ends abruptly unfortunately, but still worthwhile.)

Only heard this cover for the first time a few days ago - it's the B-side to Drive In Saturday -

I especially like the Faces one because they've made it their own, it really sounds like a typical Faces number. I didn't know Bowie's version, thanks for posting it. Can't say I like it a lot though.
On Friday the postman brought me the two volumes of The Beatles' 'Live At The BBC' I've ordered. There's also a version of 'Memphis Tennessee' on the very first disc.
Oh, and there's also a fine version by Elvis Presley:

I think it was the use of *nice*, not the specific band, Gord. :D

I've got an Alexei Sayle LP btw, and it's definitely not nice. ;)

I didn't know Bowie's version of (Around and Around), thanks for posting it. Can't say I like it a lot though.

Interesting comment on the YouTube vid I posted. Don't know if it's accurate.

Originally supposed to be on The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars but was dropped in favor for Starman. Both great songs, no doubt about it, but from an artistic viewpoint I can understand why Bowie would include Starman (an original) as opposed to Round and Round (Chuck Berry song).

Sayle's Cak! LP is up there with the Young Ones as quintessential 80s comedy.
I just read in John Lydon's biography that the UK voted him 'most hated guy 1978'. Doesn't that just sum up what a useless, f**ked up nation we are? In 1978 there was Pol Pot, Hirohito and Idi Amin Dada... Yes, but at least they had nice hair and didn't make loud music or say simply beastly things about the Queen Mother. You BRUTE, Johnny!

I don't know if Bowie was the right man to cover early, basic rock n roll unless he changed it completely to something new.
I liked what he did with 'Alabama Song' (ok, not an early r'n'r song) , so that's the kind of reimagination I'd like to hear from him. He's no Bo Didley or Buddy Holly.
(By the way, I don't know why I suddenly referred to your link as a cover of 'M,T'...stop drinking, Gordon!)

Although I must add that I like his Jerry Lee Lewis sounding originals such as Suffragette City and Hang On To Yourself.

Happy Birthday, Bob Weir!
