Things that piss you off Page 878

Strangest name I ever encountered was a girl at me school called Adete. She was named after her Mum's friend who was Indian. It was a lovely name but it always surprised new people who expected an Indian girl to turn up and got a pale blonde instead.

Anyone Know a Dominic?

Years ago. I don't mind that name.

Anyone Know a Dominic?

They always end up as serious types, very few funny and carefree Dominics in the world. On the plus side, they usually get good jobs.

Should it have a K?

Nope!

Anyone Know a Dominic?

Plenty of them in Cork strangely enough...to do with the monks.

Once you start looking at names too long, they all start to sound weird and like you may have made them up...

Anyone Know a Dominic?

Me.

He was at Uni with me and went missing. No one has found him since. He got up in the middle of a lecture, said "This is bullshit" and walked out. Never took anything, not even his family knew where he was.

True story.

Lee is a good name.

L names are the best...

Lot of D names in Ireland - Declan, Dominic, Dermot, etc., though I'm sometimes thrown by the spelling of names - it took me ages to associate Siobahn with a V sound.

My true story - was laughed at in Classics when I mispronounced both Antigone (anti-gone) and Penelope (penny lope). I hated school.

This from the woman who's name comes from some rocks - Ruby, Amber, Beryl...um, Cheryl Cole.

Penelope (penny lope).

I've always had a problem pronouncing that name, sort of catches me out.

Ching Chong Chinaman!

Lee is a good name.

My brother Roy would disagree, he dropped the Lee like a hot potato.

Can't blame him though, most people associate Leroy with big Black dudes, not 5'6" Scottish guys.
