Stand up Comedy. Page 11

Just enroled in a stand-up course starting in early september, it's with a group called 'Practical Productions', it's based in Greenwich, the course tutor is a guy called Harry Denford, and the end of course show will be at 'Up the Creek' in greenwich...I'll let you know how it all goes...

Well done Stan and fridaylink. If ever I were to do it, I think I'd choose friday's style. Good jokes too. :)

@Gagsy ... cool - hope it goes well. Would be great if this thread (and the stand up bit on the "new" site)spawned lots of new and interesting stand-ups.

A few competitions for the more experienced people here to try.

Nice spot - there's also a comp in Swansea that starts next week (http://forums.chortle.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=29494).

Cheers Gagsy - let us know if you pick up any interesting tips. Looking forward to having a standup section of this site.

Well done. That was pretty good Angie. Some good jokes, nae bad, nae bad at all.
:)

Been wanting to get into Stand Up since I was in school although I did do a very short slot at Up the Creek which while nerve wracking went down well considering I was only there as a visitor and therefore had no material! I been writing some potential material although at this stage it's only a draft.

"My husband splashes out occasionally" ... "and I don't mean the good kind" made me smile lots.

I liked how "just me" got a massive reaction.

Very enjoyable. Where was the club? The red lighting looked a bit odd.

Awesome - good stuff Ange! You looked confident and had good patter for a first gig - great opener too.

I've never done stand up, but the way I look at it, if your routine is really funny, you've got nothing to be nervous about.

If it was all about the material, it would be a lot easier.
But if your routine is really funny then the audience will probably like it.

The club was Mama Jong's at the Horse Bar near Waterloo. Yeah it's a shame the light was so red, but it's a good size room in a nice bar. Most comics are mostly newbies so it's a great night out for cheap comedy.

Thanks for the nice feedback too guys. My main reason for posting was because I have been finding it hard to write more material, so I thought 'If I post the link then I have to write more material'. I like to think of this thread as a motivator...If I've posted it, then I have to do it!

A couple of people on courses have told me one of the biggest mistakes comedians make starting out is that they have to keep writing new material, it is far more important to hone your current set by tweaking, adding and changing.

If you see most of the big comedians (as I was lucky to see Sarah Millican twice recently, it's always the same set with occasional tweaks to what works and what doesn't.

My set is basically the same for the past 2 years with additions and tweaks! If it works it stays in, if not it gets replaced.

Well Done Angie, alot of good material and it worked well. It seems all you need is more confidence.

Fair play to you, I would love to do it.

:)

Do it! Just do it, it's the most amazing buzz... I would recommend it to anyone.
