I wouldn't have thought she'd win. Novels and short stories are filled with people who look like someone famous.

A ridiculous example of celebrity litigiousness, the only people making any money now are lawyers and bankers.

Iain Banks has died. This morning I was reading a review of his latest book and hoping he might keep going for a bit longer.

sad news indeed

Very sad. Along with Stephen King he was one of those writers that made me first love reading. Great sci fi writer too.

And very laid back about big ideas, and never afraid of a joke or a rude one.
Could imagine he'd be ace to have a drink down the pub with.

I've never read one of his books. I shall now, but now it'll be all sad.

My favourite was 'The Crow Road' which was televised. 'The Wasp Factory' was fascinating. I haven't read all his books, though.
