I read the news today oh boy! Page 1,227

Labor had some awful faults, PFI added vast amounts to our debt for little appreciable gain.

But the condems seem to actively like hurting people.

God alone knows why.

I can't believe that anyone could knock the Blair government while living under this Condem coalition.

Same Thatcherite legacy, Blair was just very lucky that while the world was in some Capitalist utopian daydream he was seen as successful with the economy, before we found out it was all a house of cards and it collapsed. We haven't had a truly socialist Government since 1976 under Wilson. even Callaghan was edging towards the center right

They are punishing the country for denying them their natural position of power for over ten years. The politics of entitlement

Problem is socialism just doesn't work.

Its never been tried

There's been a lot of countries that claim to have tried it.

They may have claimed but have not succeeded. Cuba would be the closest but that was hampered by an American embargo that forced them into the hands of the Russians. America of course wanted Cuba to remain the corrupt playground of the rich and famous that it was before the revolution, Castro was a genuine socialist, neither communist or capitalist, who would have been willing to deal with the West. The only attempt at socialism here was the Attlee government, which was itself hampered by the Americans who gave them a loan that we finally managed to pay off in 1997, thereby preventing the New Jerusalem. This along with post war debt and destruction forced socialism to be watered down into a consensus that lasted until Thatcher, but was doomed to failure. The only truly socialist policy to get through was the NHS, still regarded as a jewel in Britain's Crown even today.

Atlees government achieved huge amounts
It crippled its self economically with a command economy, lack of credit anmd other failings

Castro's Cuba killed its self by not making peace with america since the fall of the ussr

Attlee's government was crippled by the terms of the American loan and the winter of 1947. It achieved much less than it should have, nationalisation alone was never going to be the answer. It also threw away a chance to be in the EEC from the get go and thereby dictate its growth.

America was not interested in 'making peace' with Castro, only in starving Cuba into surrender, something they still have not succeeded in doing

When the chips are down, they're all self-seeking bastards and I'm off to slit my wrists (not aided by having to decide whether or not I want to be independent). However we should remember we're just insects scrabbling on the face of the earth, so who'll care 100 or more years from now?

Before the chips are down. Until we pay them correctly and they are unable to do any outside work or claim ridiculous expenses the system will remain a corrupt, self serving refuge for the greedy and dishonest. Be independent it must be the only way to let the bastards know how sick we all of this. So many scandals, so many interdependent corruption and perversions that appear to be state sponsored or at least allowed must be addressed eventually, I'm afraid something is very rotten in the state of Denmark

Now that I agree with MPs should be professionals paid appropriately and allowed to claim reasonable expenses.

Bullying them over their wages, encourages dishonesty and disnenginuity.
