Sidney Bliss is the proprietor and manager of the Wedded Bliss matrimonial agency. With the assistance of business partner Sophie Plummer - with whom he has long had 'an understanding' (or at least, she has) - the pair attempt to match a series of clients with potential romantic partners.
However, much to Sophie's chagrin, Sid has a habit of "vetting" the agency's other most curvaceous clients, particularly local corset saleswoman Esme Cannon.
When the naive Bertrum Muffet arrives at their door, keen to find a wife who shares his love of making model aeroplanes from milk bottle tops, Sophie sends him off to meet the elder Esme. Along the way he bumps into aspiring model Sally, who believes him to be the photographer she's supposed to be meeting. The pair very quickly get their wires quite crossed indeed!
Meanwhile, the agency is also trying to find a match for lascivious bachelor Terence Philpot, a single marriage guidance counsellor, and a repressed young woman living with her ancient relatives.
Add a private detective, a jealous housekeeper and a star wrestler, and the chances of a single successful match being made by Wedded Bliss - nevermind Sid's own - seem to diminish fast!
