Hacked off

I was the NOTW's TV Editor when it closed its doors in July. At a Channel 4 lunch in the summer, I offered my services as a consultant. Having lived through what the programme was trying to send-up, I told them I could have added a sense of authenticity to the project. My proposal was never taken up. Having watched Hacks, I can see why. There was no desire to make it a wry look at the genuine excesses of the tabloid press, or even vaguely true-to-life.
